A communications strategist with more than 20 years of consulting, corporate, political and journalistic experience, Ernie Mills devotes himself to helping leaders preserve and build strong corporate reputations and reach customers in novel ways. His areas of focus are message strategy, executive writing and counseling, marketing and employee communications.
Since launching Mills Global LLC, a communications consulting firm, in 2000, Ernie has worked with leaders of such organizations as AES, Aetna, Cigna, Crompton, Flagship Healthcare, ING, MassMutual, Pitney Hardin, Prudential, and White & Case. Through partnerships with leading branding firms, he has helped to shape innovative marketing projects for Allstate, American Express, Arby’s, the Free Library of Philadelphia, Morgan Stanley, the Saudi American Bank, and others.
For a decade, Ernie was a communications executive for Aetna, working with the CEOs of its property/casualty insurance, financial services and international divisions. He has worked extensively with Asian and Latin American business leaders, and has built communication strategies for more than 20 large-scale mergers and acquisitions. Ernie also led an innovative campaign to reshape Aetna’s corporate culture, an effort that received an IABC Gold Quill for Excellence, among other awards.
During the presidency of George H.W. Bush, Ernie served at the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C., as head of its publications, broadcasting and speechwriting units. In this role Ernie created strategies and messages for top G.O.P. leaders Lee Atwater and Clayton Yeutter, cabinet secretaries, and, on some occasions, President Bush.
Ernie's strategic communications experience is enriched by early experience in journalism, first as a reporter for the daily Springfield (Mass.) Morning Union, then as the editor of a Capitol Cities/ABC weekly newspaper.
Ernie is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Naval Reserve and the Army National Guard. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Westfield State College.
